Studio Set Series: The Piano ~ Boudoir Photography ~ Vancouver, WA

Studio Set Series: The Piano ~ Boudoir Photography ~ Vancouver, WA

What’s the first thing you notice when you look at these boudoir shots?

At first, you’ll probably see that they include a piano! It’s a huge piece that’s also a new addition to the studio, so it’s sure to catch your eye. Plus, when looking at my studio sets... you would typically see a bed, couch, or even my window seat. You aren’t used to seeing a piano in my boudoir photography, so it’s guaranteed to stand out!

When I look at these photos myself, though... I see something entirely different! This new set in my studio is FILLED with sentimental items from my family, so my eye goes to those items first. Once I spot those items... I’m immediately reminded of special memories that are tied to those items and the people that I love. So even though we’re seeing the same photos, I’m also seeing years of memories when I look at these shots!

Studio Set Series: The Bathtub ~ Boudoir Photography ~ Vancouver, WA

When it comes to the boudoir sets in my studio space… all of them are loved equally, but I’ve noticed that some of them definitely offer more flexibility than the others!

I have sets that are more on the “permanent” side in terms of where they’re located in my studio… like my living room set! But I do have a bit of flexibility because I’m able to swap out decor that’s used in the space. The bedroom set is similar! I can change out the linens on the bed, but the bedroom will always be located in the same spot in my studio.

Lately, I’ve been really excited about some of the special sets that allow me to get flexible with the location of the set AND how we use it… like the bathtub set!

Poses and Pastries! ~ Boudoir Photography ~ Vancouver, WA

Poses and Pastries! ~ Boudoir Photography ~ Vancouver, WA

If you’ve checked out any of my blog posts in the past, you might have noticed that boudoir sessions with me usually fall into one of two categories…

The first category is the most common session type! When clients reach out to book a shoot, we typically set up a standard studio session that includes photography time in the living room set, bedroom set, and one special set of your choice.

But occasionally… I’ll work with a model who visits the studio and tries out a new studio set with me! During these model sessions, we test out a new area inside or outside of the studio to see how it looks on camera and make sure we can work out any hiccups (like these!) that may pop up while shooting.

On rare occasion… I have models who stop in the studio to help me out by posing in a new studio set, but they also have their own boudoir vision in mind! In this case, I can work with them to add on additional photography time and snap some shots in another set of their choosing. This is exactly what happened when I scheduled a boudoir session with my model!

The Bridge Birth Center ~ Vancouver, WA ~ Brand Photography Content Event

The Bridge Birth Center ~ Vancouver, WA ~ Brand Photography Content Event

When I take brand photos for local businesses, I usually capture these shots as part of a brand story package! My brand story offerings usually include a pre-session consultation where we come up with a plan and location for the photography shoot. Once the day of the session finally arrives, I make sure to capture headshots, product photos, and candid images of the business owner at work.

For this session, though, things were planned a bit differently…

These brand photos were taken during a special content day for birth workers rather than one of my typical brand story sessions! This content event was definitely a change of pace for me, and it was SO rewarding to spend the day with these compassionate birth workers.

Shae's Sourdough ~ Vancouver, WA ~ Brand Story Photography Session

Shae's Sourdough ~ Vancouver, WA ~ Brand Story Photography Session

Whenever I have a brand story photography session with a business owner, I always look forward to driving around the Pacific Northwest to capture them in whichever location they feel the most comfortable in!

Sometimes business owners feel the most “in their element” in their own work space, so that’s where we end up having the shoot. Other times, they might love the outdoors or prefer to have their session at home… Any of these options work perfectly with me!

It’s always my goal to make sure that whoever I’m working with feels comfortable and excited about the environment for their upcoming session… So when it came to working with Shae Powell, we definitely had a conversation about which setting would be ideal for her.

For this session with Shae, we ended up selecting a location that we usually don’t choose for a business branding session… My kitchen! I’m used to having clients in my home studio for boudoir shoots, but using my kitchen as a set was definitely a big change for me. It ended up being perfect for this type of session, though!

Think back to the most recent boudoir session you had… What was going on in your life at the time of the shoot?

Clients have shared that they sometimes book a boudoir session to commemorate a special time in their lives… Celebrating a professional accomplishment, milestone birthday, or even your marriage can be great reasons to come in for boudoir photos!

Then, when you take a look back at your photos from the session, you’ll be taken back to that special moment in your life and be able to relive those positive memories through your photos.

When my client recently booked a session with me, he shared that he had a TON going on in his life that timed out perfectly with the date of his boudoir session! This photography session acted as a celebration of his upcoming wedding, and it also was a meaningful way to commemorate his eight years on testosterone.

When it comes to my brand story clients, I’ve had SO much fun learning all about them, their work, and their passions. It’s truly one of my favorite parts of shooting a branding photography session!

As much as I love to meet new people and also learn about different businesses that I’m not already familiar with, I switched things up with this shoot… This time, there wasn’t a need to learn a ton about my client and her work… Why? My client for this session is someone I’m already very close to!

My awesome friend, Meghan Crozier, is the owner of The Pursuing Life. She is a super passionate and thoughtful individual, and I’m proud to be her friend! Meghan writes all about faith deconstruction, justice, and mental health. If you’re open to challenging your preconceived beliefs about faith, The Pursuing Life would be a great blog for you to check out.

No matter who I’m having a boudoir shoot with for the day… I’ve noticed that each client ends up walking away from their session with a new sense of freedom! Why?
