Studio Set Series: The Living Room ~ Boudoir Photography ~ Vancouver, WA
/If you’ve been a boudoir fan for quite awhile… It’s likely that you’ve seen some of my recent boudoir photos AND many of my older shots from a couple years ago!
When you compare my older shots to the newer ones, what are some of the differences that you’ve noticed?
One of the most noticeable changes is the number of special sets, backdrops, and themes that I’ve recently tried out… I’m always thinking about new special sets that I can bring to life in my studio (like my solid backdrop and shower set), and I’ve been lucky enough to have amazing clients and models who help make these visions happen!
If you take a closer look… You might also notice that my classic sets have changed, too! Even though the living room set is one that I’ve used consistently, there have been SO many changes to it over the years.
Why? The location of my studio has changed! When making the switch and getting set up in my new photography space, I also made sure to upgrade my living room set and add new features to my setup!
Today’s post is ALL about highlighting these fun upgrades and new details that I’ve added to the living room set! Just about every boudoir client uses this set when they step in the studio, so I’ve decorated this area with a lot of thought and special intention… I can’t wait to share a behind-the-scenes look of this space with you!
Currently, the living room includes a purple velvet couch, a rug, and a window seat with lots of plants and textures. The purple couch is definitely a crowd favorite and really loved by my clients! Not only is it super soft and cozy when sitting on it… The velvet gives the couch a luxurious look and also matches perfectly with the floral wall behind it.
In photos, clients either lay down completely on the couch or lean on one arm of the couch while putting their legs up. Sometimes, clients will also sit on the floor while they lean back onto the couch… This is a sultry pose that always looks incredible on camera! The couch is a piece of furniture that definitely allows for a lot of versatility with the poses we can do. I’m so happy to have it in my studio!
Next to the couch is the window, window seat, and my plant! When I had the window put in, I asked the contractor to make it as big as possible because I had a clear vision of a window seat in that spot… and I’m SO happy with how it all came alive!
When clients sit down on this window seat, the light from window behind them gives us photos that are backlit… Resulting in shots that highlight the silhouettes of my clients! These types of photos are so artistic and look stunning in black and white.
Underneath that window seat, we have plenty of shelves! It was a TON of fun picking out the different decor for that space… including the books that are on the shelves! When putting this space together, I spent a lot of time at the thrift store so I could find books that were perfectly on theme with a boudoir studio. Plus, I included a little homage to Portland and Portlandia… Can you spot it?
Over this next year, I plan to continue making updates and keeping it interesting in my living room space! I love the furniture and decor that’s there, but it’s always fun to change up the little details… Like the books, plants, or even the rug I’m using!
