Studio Set Series: The Shower ~ Boudoir Photography ~ Vancouver, WA

When you think of a typical boudoir session… What types of backdrops and settings do you picture?

Usually… I’d imagine a bedroom set with a big, luxurious bed or even a living room set with a chaise lounge that’s perfect for posing! It’s SO true that you can’t go wrong with one of these classic boudoir backdrops… That’s why they’re used so often during our boudoir shoots!

These sets are staples in my studio and client favorites for a reason, but there are also plenty of other sets that deserve the love, too.

Today, we’ll be moving away from the common boudoir sets that you’d typically be familiar with… Instead, we’ll be talking about one of my special sets!

This post is the next post in my studio set series… and we’ll be talking all about the shower set!

The shower is considered to be one of our special sets! What does this mean exactly? In a typical boudoir session, you can choose one special set to include during your shoot! It’s always a hard decision to choose which special option is the right one to go with, but I have a feeling that this post will make your decision a bit easier…

The shower is SO popular with my clients for a good reason. There’s something about the steamy look of the shower that makes these photos extra steamy, too! If you choose the shower set, you’ll be guaranteed to have photos that are stunning and sensual… Looking back at these shots will bring a big boost in your confidence, and I’m sure your partner will love the photos, too!

There’s also something special about these photos in black and white! The shower shots look incredible in color, but when they’re edited in black and white, it adds a dramatic contrast that looks amazing against the water droplets. If colored photos are your favorite, no worries… I show some color options, too! The black and white photos typically end up being the favorites, though.

Now that we’ve talked about what these shower photos look like… It’s time to go behind the scenes and learn how these shots all come together!

Even though it’s a “shower” set, clients don’t actually stand in a shower… I set up a solid black backdrop behind them and then set up a clear panel right in front of them! The panel is clear, so it ends up looking like a shower door once we get it wet. I use a spray bottle to spray the clear panel and make sure it’s all covered in water droplets! Sometimes I also spray my client a couple times to give their skin and hair a wet effect… I’ll never get them soaked, though.

Because my clients might get a little wet, I save this special set for the very end of our shoot. I would hate to ruin your hair and makeup at the beginning of our entire session!

I’ve found a good technique for spraying the water that won’t leave you drenched, but it’s better to be safe than sorry… The shower set will always be used last!

If you want to see this setup in action, check out the live shower session that I posted in my boudoir Facebook group! To view it, you’ll have to be a member of the group… You can become a member by clicking here if you haven’t joined in the fun yet!

If you’re interested in trying out the shower set during your next boudoir shoot, I highly recommend it. Especially if you’re looking to do any nude, topless, or implied nude images… the shower set is perfect for you! You can start with your choice of lingerie and undress during your session… adding even more steam to this spicy shoot.
