Poses and Pastries! ~ Boudoir Photography ~ Vancouver, WA
/If you’ve checked out any of my blog posts in the past, you might have noticed that boudoir sessions with me usually fall into one of two categories…
The first category is the most common session type! When clients reach out to book a shoot, we typically set up a standard studio session that includes photography time in the living room set, bedroom set, and one special set of your choice. With a standard session, you have a TON of creative control over the shoot as a whole! You are able to choose the outfits you wear, whether you’d like your session to have a theme, and even the linens on the bed.
But occasionally… I’ll work with a model who visits the studio and tries out a new studio set with me! During these model sessions, we test out a new area inside or outside of the studio to see how it looks on camera and make sure we can work out any hiccups (like these!) that may pop up while shooting. Usually, the model has less creative control during these types of sessions because they’re stepping into a preselected set that I happen to need some assistance with.
On rare occasion… I have models who stop in the studio to help me out by posing in a new studio set, but they also have their own boudoir vision in mind! In this case, I can work with them to add on additional photography time and snap some shots in another set of their choosing.
This is exactly what happened when I scheduled a boudoir session with my model! She’s a Pastry Chef and absolutely loves to bake in the kitchen… So it made perfect sense that she was interested when I was looking to schedule a model session for my kitchen set! She also modeled for me in my old studio when I was testing out the kitchen set there, and it was an awesome, helpful session. Because of this, I was SUPER happy when she shared that she would join me again.
Around the time of her scheduled session, I also happened to get a bathtub for my studio! As luck would have it… She was also excited to help me out with this new bathtub set and agreed to pose there, too. On top of these two new sets, she wanted to take some photos in the living room set and bedroom set for her husband’s birthday. With photography time planned in all of these sets… I knew it would be a busy, fun-filled session!
On the day of my model’s session, Haley Alverson did her hair and makeup, and she did SUCH an awesome job. Her lip and eyeshadow colors were neutral and sophisticated while her skin looked radiant!
After my model’s hair and makeup was done, we jumped right into the session. She wore her husband’s San Francisco Giants jersey in the living room set, and she posed by the couch and the window seat. For this part of shoot, she accessorized his jersey with thigh-highs and only bottoms underneath… Making these the ultimate birthday photos for her husband!
My model also posed on the bed and chose green satin sheets which looked stunning with her hair and complexion! She wore black lingerie with some lace for these shots which was a classic choice for one of our “classic” studio sets.
We then had a TON of fun trying out the kitchen and bathtub sets! With my model’s love for baking and pastries, she was right at home in the kitchen. Of course we had to add a whisk, rolling pin, and flour to this session to set the scene and make the kitchen look like it was in use. For these shots, she wore an apron with a long pearl necklace that added a flirty, retro touch to the photos!
We also tried out the bathtub! We learned that this set is awesome for taking sultry body photos. The bubbles are also great for taking implied nude shots. You can wear bottoms and a small strapless top that will be covered by the bubbles… creating the illusion that you’re actually nude!
Thank you SO much to my model for embracing this experience entirely and helping me try out these sets!
Both the bathtub and the kitchen were SUCH fun sets that would be perfect for someone who wants to add a playful touch to their boudoir photos. If you’re interested in either set, you can choose one of them as your special set when you book with me next!
