Nathun & Katie ~ Hitched for Halloween! ~ Kelso, Washington
/When it comes to planning a wedding, it’s always a great idea to think about some of your favorite things as well as your partner’s favorite things and find a way to include them in your big day… whether it’s a favorite musical artist, type of food, or color!
Better yet… You can also take your favorite things and turn them into the entire theme for your wedding!
This is exactly what Nathun and Katie did! Both of them are huge fans of Halloween, so they decided to make their wedding Halloween themed. Their big day was set in October, so it was the perfect time of year to include fun costumes and spooky decor.
On the morning of their wedding, Nathun and Katie both made their way to their friend’s private property in Kelso, Washington where they planned to get married. This location was absolutely gorgeous! A long, narrow road led up to the property, and the drive featured quite a scenic view. There were gorgeous trees and greenery everywhere.
It was also a sunny, warm day (by October’s standards!) which made this an ideal day for a wedding. They truly picked the perfect day for an outdoor celebration!
After Nathun and Katie both finished getting ready for the day, it was time for me to arrive. I planned to take a few portraits of the couple before their ceremony, and we found some stunning backdrops to use for the shots!
I absolutely LOVED seeing each of their chosen costumes! Before the wedding, Nathun let me know that they’d be dressing up using a Wild West theme. I knew what theme they chose, but I didn’t have an exact idea of what their outfits would look like. I was blown away!
Katie’s long red dress included a bold floral pattern, black lace, and a corset. She also wore a fun headpiece that matched perfectly with her red flowers! Nathun matched her style to a tee with his red vest and longer black jacket. While taking their couple photos, it was so enjoyable to see how their individual wedding looks came together as a pair.
In these photos, their joy is infectious. The big smiles on each of their faces truly speak for themselves! I could tell that they couldn’t wait to continue the day and get the celebrations started.
Before we knew it, it was time for the ceremony to begin! As guests filed in and sat down, it was SO fun to see everybody’s choice of Halloween costume. The wedding guests could practically choose any type of outfit they wanted (outside of Wild West attire), so they had unlimited options! As you can see, many of the attendees got creative with their looks and had a ton of fun with dressing up.
Once it was time for the ceremony, Nathun walked down the aisle and stood waiting by an absolutely gorgeous archway. This archway was a perfect woodsy touch that also complemented their chosen theme really well!
Next, their flower girl and ring bearer came down the aisle… in costume of course! Then, it was time for Katie to come down the aisle with her mom. All eyes were on Katie in her beautiful dress, and I could tell she couldn’t wait to meet Nathun at the end of the aisle. Then, as the couple later said their vows, I couldn’t help but also notice the officiant’s costume!
Between the ceremony and reception, guests started making their way to the tables and grabbing some drinks. During this time, I captured some of Nathun and Katie’s spooky reception details!
To bring their Halloween theme to life, they made sure to include plenty of skeletons, gravestones, and a ghost suspended in the air! Their chosen decor was all perfect for a Halloween theme, and they also incorporated their chosen colors of plum and rust into their decor.
Right after the reception started, it was time for a costume contest. The guests chose such awesome costumes, so I had no clue who would win it all! Kicking the reception off with a costume contest was such a refreshing way to move into the second half of the celebration. It was such a unique addition to their wedding schedule, and I could tell that all of the guests had fun with the contest!
Shortly after, it was time for everybody to eat. Of course, everybody ate in suspense and excitement while all of the votes had to be tallied!
After the winner of the costume contest was announced, it was time for Nathun and Katie’s first dance. They danced to “I’ll Stand by You” by the Pretenders, and this was such a touching moment between the newlyweds. They were smiling so brightly at each other, and their love was beautiful to see!
Soon after, their family and friends stood up and also joined them on the dance floor.
After Nathun and Katie shared their first dance, it was time for live music! Nathun kicked things off by playing songs he wrote throughout his relationship with Katie, and she was beaming through the whole performance. Next, Nathun was joined by his bandmates, and they played a few covers to keep the party going.
The owner of the property and his wife are also musicians, and they continued to play live music during the reception! The live performances were an additional touch that made Nathun and Katie’s big day feel unique and personalized.
Congratulations to Nathun and Katie! It was an honor to help capture the memories of your Halloween wedding. It was so clear to see that your guests had an incredible time celebrating you and love you so much!
For anyone who’s looking to plan a wedding that’s centered around your favorite things, take it from Nathun and Katie. If you and your partner have a shared love of a certain holiday, hobby, or style… it’s fun to embrace it on your big day!
