All Things New! ~ Boudoir Photography ~ Vancouver, WA
/In our lives, when it comes to facing something that’s completely new… It can be a bit scary!
If you start a new job, move to a new place, or are trying out a brand new activity for the first time, you may not know what to expect. Naturally, this can create some worries and anxiety…
Trust me, we’ve all been there!
Other times, when we’re in a different mindset, new changes can feel exciting! A new change can be just what we need to shake up our daily lives and take us out of our routines. If you’ve been feeling “stuck” or start to feel like you need something fresh in your life… Even a small change is enough to help us break away from our day-to-day patterns and schedules.
In my life, I recently had a big change that really shook things up… I went through the process of switching up the location of my studio space! I decided to say goodbye to my old studio and create a new and improved photography space attached to my home!
It was SUCH a project, and I was nervous to see how everything would come together… But I’m so proud of the space and all of the hard work I put into it. Plus… While designing, painting, and setting up all of the furniture, I was totally taken out of my normal weekly routine! Sometimes it just takes a new, fun project to get us feeling that “spark” again!
Speaking of my new studio… This photography session was one of the first that we shot in this updated space! The studio wasn’t the only “new” thing we tried out during this shoot… This session was ALL about shaking things up and trying new things.
For this session, I had a model call, and the model who ended up joining me was a past client of mine. Because of this, I knew that she would be comfortable and familiar with the boudoir process as a whole… Leaving us to have some extra fun during the session by trying new things!
The first new element of the session? Our hair and makeup artist! This session was my first time working with Haley Alverson, and the whole look she created was perfect. The cooler tones on my model’s eyes looked amazing against her warmer hair. Plus, her eyes truly popped with the colors that Haley used! The hair styling looked effortless and wind-swept… It was truly the perfect “bedroom” hair!
Once we officially got started with the session, we first used some of my classic sets before exploring the brand new set! We started off in the bedroom set, and my model chose to wear a green teddy which looked amazing with her makeup and hair color… It was a perfect choice! We chose black bedding to complement this look, and it really allowed the colors of her hair, makeup, and lingerie to pop in the final shots. Next, my model wore a black lingerie set in the following set of shots. It was really fun to play with lighting and close-ups during this part of the session! Some of my favorite photos of the day ended up being the headshots from this section of the shoot.
Finally, it was time to play around in my new set! When setting up my new studio, I knew that I wanted to really switch things up by creating a hair, makeup, and dressing space for clients that would be functional… but also double as a photography set!
As we got started with this part of the shoot, I was SO excited to see how this new space would look on camera. My model posed while standing up and looking in the mirror, and these photos came out looking great! She also sat down in this space, and I snapped some photos close up with the mirror behind her.
It was so much fun to create this multi-purpose set, and it felt especially rewarding to see how it looked in the final shots. I can’t wait to keep using this set in the future!
I’m sending a big thank you to my model for joining me for the day and trying out all of these new sets in my updated studio! Plus, I really appreciate Haley for all of her hard work and the AMAZING job she did on my model’s hair and makeup.
Sometimes it just takes a few changes to really shake up our routines and add extra excitement to our lives. This session was a fun change for me, and it definitely was a refreshing way to bring some “newness” into my day!
