Fashion Flashback ~ Boudoir Photography ~ Vancouver, WA
/For today’s blog post, we’ll be covering more about one of my favorite boudoir topics… Fashion!
In past blog posts, I’ve talked all about how boudoir sessions give us the perfect opportunity to express our personal style… No matter what your tastes are! Whether you love simple outfits, have a glamorous wardrobe, or even go for an edgier, alternative look… You can feel confident showing up to your photography session as your TRUE self with the styles that reflect your personality the best.
Boudoir is all about embracing yourself exactly as the unique person that you are, so why not show up to your session in the styles you love the most? Plus, if there’s a certain type of clothing you like to wear that ALSO makes you feel confident, I would totally recommend that you consider these styles for your shoot!
If you’ve been around for awhile and have read my blog posts, then I’m sure that some of this is old news… But here’s something new to keep in mind!
If you have a specific style or set of outfits that you want to include in your boudoir session, we can talk about particular sets, fun backdrops, and even poses that go hand-in-hand with your personal style!
You heard that right!
I’m here to make sure that you have a personalized session that truly complements your fashion sense… So when my client reached out for a boudoir session and shared more about her tastes, I was immediately SO excited to see her style in person. She told me that she loves retro styles (think 1940s and 1950s) and also really enjoys shopping at vintage stores. After hearing this, I knew that we could create some cool shots that have a pin-up feel!
My client also shared that she wanted to book this shoot for her birthday. She had a list of things to accomplish before her next milestone birthday, and a boudoir session was on the list! Keeping this all in mind… A retro theme with a sexy, confident feel was definitely the perfect choice for her boudoir shoot. Who wouldn’t want to feel totally in their element for their birthday session?
On the day of the session, my client arrived and we quickly got started with her hair and makeup. We let Emily know all about the vision for our client’s styling, and she did an AMAZING job with creating a vintage feel with her curls and eye makeup.
As soon as we got started with shooting, the vintage vibe was immediately present. In the bedroom set, my client chose the purple satin sheets and also wore a stunning scarlet colored set. In some of the “sheets” shots, we made sure to feature her Mary Jane heels which emphasized the retro feel even more! My client later took some photos in a deep blue lace set that also had a sophisticated, vintage vibe. The pieces she chose for this session were gorgeous!
My favorite part of the session would have to be the rose petal shots! For these photos, my client’s outfit definitely had a pin-up feel to it, and we made sure that her poses did, too. Then, adding rose petals to the photos turned up the romance and sensuality even more! When editing these shots, I also made sure to take inspiration from the 1940s and 1950s by really leaning into the beauty of black and white photos.
Looking back at this session, it truly had a vintage feel that perfectly matched my client’s retro style. Her style definitely inspired the hair, makeup, and poses for the shoot… And she inspired me, too! This session was a much needed reminder of the magic that can happen when we completely embrace our tastes and personal style.
Thank you again to my client for joining us for the day, and I hope you have such a special birthday!
