New Backdrop, New Baby! ~ Maternity Boudoir Session ~ Vancouver, WA

When it comes to this line of work there’s something special about photographing a client, living a little bit of life, and then having another session with them later! I love seeing all of the changes that go on in my clients’ lives… It’s truly my pleasure to see how you’ve been since your last session, and it’s so fun to hear your life updates!

Coming back for a second session also allows you to switch up the mood and setting of the shoot! If you have your first session with me and then realize you’d like to return and have a shoot with a different vibe, I’m all here for it. Here’s the story of my client who did exactly that!

My client for this session was my AMAZING makeup artist who helped me with the makeup looks for lots of my boudoir clients! (She is currently on maternity leave, and then relocating, and I’m super sad to see her go… but if you’re looking for an artist in the midwest this winter, you should definitely check her out! lol)

This was her second boudoir session with me. Last time, she requested to have an outdoor boudoir photography session at the garden outside of her home in Battle Ground, Washington. Those photos had a lighter, romantic “cottage core” vibe! Most of the shots included a green garden backdrop that really gave the photos a natural, outdoorsy feel.

This time, though, we switched it up! We definitely used a different setting for the shots (there’s no greenery to be found), and my client also agreed to let me test out some new lighting techniques on her. Because of this, the photos came out looking completely different from the first session!

The backdrop and setting weren’t the only things that changed from the first session to the next… My client was also pregnant for our second shoot! I was SO excited for this photo shoot because I knew that this lighting and photo style would be incredible for a maternity session… And I have to say, I was right on this one. Look how gorgeous these shots came out!

This session included simple, moodier lighting, and this simple lighting allowed us to easily highlight her pregnancy in these photos! When taking the pictures and editing them, too, I made sure that the light and shadows played off of each other in each shot. I love high contract images! Especially those in black and white. Maybe it stems from my newspaper days…

Overall, such powerful shots came out of this session! I am so happy that my client will have these maternity photos to look back on… They’re stunning photos that document her pregnancy, and they’re an awesome contrast to her first set of outdoor boudoir shots. I even gave her a metal print of one of her favorite images for her baby shower… I just loved it SO much!

Interested in a similar boudoir session and love how these shots came out? I’d love to talk with you. I can’t wait to chat with you and keep working with this photo style!
