Mommy & Me at Frenchman's Bar ~ Vancouver, WA

Mommy and Me photo sessions hold a special place in my heart. Moms usually get the short end of the stick when it comes to candid family photos — we often have to resort to selfies, deal with our partner’s idea of a “good” picture (OMG the angles that he chooses! lol), or just not be in them at all. We moms NEED photos of ourselves with our kids… bonus points for photos that we actually love to look at and make us feel beautiful.

(Side note: This need for moms to feel beautiful is what stemmed my desire to open my boudoir photography studio and focus on that photography genre. I LOVE working with mommas!)

My Mommy and Me spring sessions this year had a bit of a wrench thrown in my plans… (#2020, right?). So my pre-booked clients rescheduled their sessions throughout the remainder of the year… and this “fall” session was one of them.

This family lives Hazel Dell area of Vancouver, WA. I live on the eastside of town and I don’t spend much time on the west side of town myself, so reached out to my photography community for some location ideas. I gave my client several recommendations, and they chose Frenchman’s Bar. I’d never been out there before (not sure what I was waiting for!), and I love to check out new spots, so was happy for the adventure!

Their “fall” session on a beautiful October day, turned out to be 80+ degrees! So we QUICKLY got photos done of their, long-sleeved fall-themed outfits so that we could strip down into something a little cooler… though seasonally inappropriate. LOL

When at all possible, I ask my clients to get in water. lol I love the water. I also think that it really showcases the beauty of the Pacific Northwest and tells a better story about our lives in this part of the country. And that’s what photography is to me… capturing stories. So, when I can get families to make memories in front of my lens, I’m all for it!

We were wet, sweaty, sandy, and tired by the end of this session… but I think the smiles show that everyone left pretty dang happy, too! I am absolutely in love with these images and hope that this momma is, too!
