Festive and Free! ~ Fourth of July Boudoir Photography ~ Vancouver, WA
/If you’ve been around for awhile and have read through some of my blog posts… You may have noticed a common theme in all of these boudoir session recaps!
Can you guess what it is?
No matter who I’m having a boudoir shoot with for the day… I’ve noticed that each client ends up walking away from their session with a new sense of freedom!
Why?
I personally can’t think of anything more liberating than stepping outside of the box, stripping down, and embracing yourself exactly as you are. That’s what true freedom feels like!
Boudoir is all about freeing yourself… So why not combine this activity with a holiday that’s all about celebrating your freedom?
That’s right… I’m talking about the Fourth of July!
Independence Day and boudoir sessions are opportunities to joyfully appreciate the freedom that we have. This similarity is one of the reasons why we planned a Fourth of July session! I was also thinking about the fun red, white, and blue props we could use… And that’s when I realized that we HAD to schedule a boudoir shoot!
Thankfully, one of my past models was able to stop in and help bring this special session to life. As we were setting up the props and sets for this shoot, I knew we were both going to have a TON of fun!
At the beginning of the session, my model wore a white tank top with jean shorts, and this simple look allowed us to have a lot of fun with accessories! We added a pair of glasses that had American flags on each of the lenses… And this made for some very playful shots! Plus, these photos all have a simple background which really allowed this fun accessory to stand out.
Then, my model kept wearing the same tank top and shorts, but we switched up the feel of these shots! We took away the glasses and added accessories that were very Rosie the Riveter inspired. Her blue button-up and red bandana really brought our Rosie the Riveter look to life. Her red lipstick also added a pin-up feel to the final photos! Looking back on these shots, I love the photos of my model flexing and really leaning into the theme of her outfit.
Next, my model stripped down and changed into a look that definitely felt more boudoir inspired. For these photos, she was wrapped in blue fabric that had white stars on it. When taking the shots, I definitely wanted them to feel similar to my typical boudoir photos where my clients are wrapped up in bed sheets. For these shots, though, I wanted the Fourth of July inspiration to be clear… So adding a starry accessory was a must!
Finally, we took photos that were inspired by fireworks! We started with a simple, black background, and my model also wore black lingerie. We wanted to keep everything dark so the lights would really stand out. Once we added the light as a prop, the magic really began! This light was focused in some shots but was blurry in others, allowing my model to be the main focus. The photos that feature my model and have blurred lights in the background are some of my favorite shots of the day. The lights truly look like fireworks!
Thanks so much to my model for joining me for this session and helping me play around with these props!
If you love the look of these festive shots, you’re in luck! I’ll be using these props all throughout the beginning of summer, and I’ll also use them at my group event in July. If you’re interested in booking a session to play around with some fun props, you can contact me here or check out my events for 2024. I’m excited to hear from you!
