Dressing Up, Dressing Down ~ Boudoir + Couples Photography ~ Vancouver, WA

When was the last time you played dress up? Or had some fun with a costume on Halloween?

Really think back on it… Those of us with kids are used to helping them pick out a costume for Halloween every year, but when was the last time you really allowed yourself to play dress up and have some fun?

Once we get older and stop trick-or-treating, many of us officially hang up our Halloween costumes… unless we’re invited to the occasional Halloween party as adults! If you’re anything like me and now find yourself staying busy with your kids on Halloween, more than likely it’s been quite a bit of time since you dressed up and went all out with your own costume!

What if there was another good reason (outside of the occasional Halloween party of course) to put on a costume and embrace part of your childhood again? It can be so easy to lose sight of the magic we felt as children while dressing up, so I wanted to give my clients another good reason to grab a costume and play pretend for a bit…

I offered a “Masquerade” photography special for the Halloween/fall season exactly for this reason! Who doesn’t love to dress up again and make some magic?

My client ended up responding to my post and was interested in this session after being referred by another one of my clients. While talking to her, I learned that she hoped to include her husband, so we made plans to include him in a couple shots. We also planned to take some solo photos of her in the boudoir sets I have around the studio… It was great to make some of her solo photos and clothing choices a surprise for her husband!

When my client and her husband arrived for the big day, we started by taking masquerade photos. We took many photos of her alone, but we included him in a ton of the shots, too! The masquerade photos came out looking SO elegant and dramatic in the best way. I edited most of these photos to be black and white, highlighting the classy feel they already have. In the photos where her husband also joined her, the energy between the two of them really elevated the photos and gave a sensual feel to many of the shots.

We also made sure to take some photos of my client alone! We mainly used the living room set and also took photos with her standing by the curtains. When shooting by the curtains, the light was pouring through them, making her silhouette really pop in these photos. This made for some stunning shots!

My client’s clothing choices really added to her solo photos. She decided on classic lingerie and paired her choices with a simple white button-up. She then put on a white tank top for some of her later shots. These simple pieces looked so crisp and really added to her selected outfits. Take it from my client… When in doubt, you can’t go wrong with adding a white button-up!

Thanks so much to my client for joining me for this masquerade-themed session! It can be so fun to dress up and play pretend for a bit, and that’s exactly what this type of session allows clients to do. If you haven’t had a recent opportunity to have some fun with costumes and dress up, just know that I’m always here to bring your visions to life! If you have a specific vision for your session and want to wear something unique, I’m always all ears.
