Forever Your Little Girl ~ Wedding Dress-Up, Vancouver, WA
/More than ten years later I'm still holding on to my wedding dress. I'm not exactly sure why. I'm not sure if my daughter (now eight years old) will ever want to wear it, but I also can't stand the thought of getting ride of it, either. One day, perhaps, she'll want to see my dress and we’ll look at photos of the wedding together and talk about that time in her parent’s lives. Maybe she'll try it on and want to wear it for her own wedding one day.
Several months ago I saw a viral image of a little girl holding her mother's wedding dress up, and looking at herself in a mirror. it was an absolutely gorgeous image. It was definitely memorable to me.
When I was approached by this mother to do a similar session with her young daughter, I was so excited to be able to do this for her. On this morning, my client brought her daughter, her wedding dress, her shoes and veil for a morning of “dress up”. It was so fun to be able to see the daughter's eyes when she looked at her mother's dress, and her own reflection in the mirror with it on. She was so excited to see herself all “pretty” in the mirror!
Maybe one day this little girl will wear this dress on her wedding day. She’ll be able to look back at these photos of herself as a 3 year old wearing her mother's wedding dress, and compare them to her own wedding photos. Maybe one day the dress will get passed on and used in various ways for generations to come. These images will always be there to document and remember this moment, between this mother and his daughter, and how much this dress meant for them
