Modern Masquerade ~ Boudoir Photography ~ Vancouver, WA
/When it comes to masquerade photography sessions, my clients and I definitely aren’t strangers! I’ve LOVED shooting these themed sessions in the past, and I’ve even offered seasonal masquerade specials.
(Have you ever seen the shots from these specials? You can check them out right here!)
These types of photoshoots are a client favorite, and I can absolutely guess the reason why… The masquerade theme allows us to escape from our daily responsibilities and just focus on dressing up! We can put on a mask, find a fancy dress or suit, and play pretend for a day. Plus, there’s something about putting on a mask that gives an extra boost of confidence and sensuality… When you look back at those masquerade pictures of yourself, I guarantee you’ll love the outcome and see the confidence shining right back at you!
Even though I’ve used a masquerade theme in my photography sessions before, this time, I planned to host a model session! I had a specific vision for this shoot and was SO excited to bring it to life. I was hoping for most of the session to be in my boudoir studio and to also include many “traditional” boudoir elements… Think my living room and bedroom sets along with classic lingerie and heels! Then, we’d add in a mask to amp up the look and create a sensual and modern masquerade theme.
I was so happy when my client responded to the model call, and I got even more excited once I started to learn a bit more about her style! I learned that she had an appreciation for subtle gothic style and that she also planned to bring lots of black and lace to our session. This got me really looking forward to the session… It all totally matched with the theme I had in mind for the shoot! My client also let me know that she was planning on bringing tiaras to our session, and I knew they’d also tie in perfectly with our theme.
On the day of the session, we started off in the living room set, and my client wore a classic black lingerie look. We didn’t use the masks for these photos, but we did include one of the gorgeous tiaras that my client brought along! From there, we also used the bedroom set for a couple stunning shots. She swapped into purple lingerie with lace, and this color looked incredible alongside her complexion and the dark green satin sheets that we used!
I thought quite a bit about the best way to include some photos with the masks, and we ended up taking some with an all black background. The simple background added to the drama of the shots and really made them pop! For those photos, my client wore a gorgeous silver tiara that complemented our theme, and she also used two different masks in the photos. One of the masks was black with more of a soft, lacy look to it. The second mask was silver and jeweled… Each mask gave a different feel to the photos, but both were gorgeous!
Before coming in for the session, my client also let me know that she was hoping to take some photos using the shower set. Even though we used quite a few different sets and took so many photos that day, these ended up being some of my favorites!
I’m so appreciative of my client for responding to my model call and spending the day with me to create these absolutely gorgeous photos! I was hoping to show that it’s possible to bring masquerade inspiration into a boudoir shoot, and we did just that. Even though I love classic masquerade sessions with formal wear, it’s fun to switch things up and bring masks into different types of photoshoots. If you’re interested in a similar type of masquerade session, I’d love to work with you and make it happen!
